Ride on horseback to temple ruins, catch a glimpse of endangered species in their natural habitat, and experience the vibrant people and culture of Bhutan. This 8-day adventure includes interactive tours throughout the enchanting “Thunder Dragon Kingdom.” From touring the mystical Tiger’s Nest Monastery and the Takin Sanctuary, to the vivacious botanical park and massive forts of Wangdue, this holiday allows you a fun, unique, and luxurious look into the best kept secret in Asia.
Day 1: Arrive in Paro – Thimphu (L/D) Upon arrival in Paro, you will rendezvous with our local experienced guide and transferred to Thimphu in a private vehicle (1hr). On the way, you will have a number of opportunites to stop and explore according to you and your families interests. After you eat lunch, you will be able to walk through the many attractions of Thimphu. Overnight in hotel of your choice.
Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing (B/L/D) Today, you will spend the whole day touring around Thimphu’s cultural sites and monuments including Tashicho Dzong, Traditional Art School, Markets, Indigenous Hospital, Nunnery, and the world famous Takin Sanctuary. Your guide can also adjust your personal tour to incorporate your personal interests.
Day 3: Thimphu – Gangtey, Phobjikha Valley (B/L/D) Today, prepare to venture across the magnificent Dochu La Pass to Gangtey, Phobjikha Valley (5 hr). The scenery is spectacular and ever changing as you ride up and down the steep roads. Upon arrival, you will begin your tour by visiting the ancient Gangtey Gompa Monastery. After you take a look around the holy grounds, take a short walk to admire the unique local homes.

Day 4: Gangtey - Wangdue - Punakha (B/L/D) This morning, take a soothing stroll through the valley to the local nature information centre. Here, you will have a chance to see the beautiful endangered black-necked crane, which reside in Phobjikha from late October till March. After taking in this rare sight, drive back into gorgeous, sub-tropical valley of Punakha – Wangdue (2-3hrs). Once here, visit the township of Wangdue and its massive fortress. In the evening, you can take a short hike to see the magnificent Chimi Lhakhang temple.
Day 5: Punakha -Thimphu- Paro (B/L/D) In the morning, visit the impressive Punakha Dzong at the confluence of Pho and Mochu rivers. If you wish, you can also take a short (40 minute each way) walk to visit Khamsum Yuelley Chorten. On the return drive to Thimphu, we spend some time below Dochula pass to explore the botanical park and nearby surrounding land for birds and diverse flora. Lunch could be planned at Dochula pass. After descending into Thimphu, continue short drive to Paro. Overnight at hotel of your choice.
Day 6: Paro Valley Tour (B/L/D) Today, you can choose from a variety of hikes including the off-the-beaten sights like the Chele pass and the Kila Gompa nunnery. Along the way, you will also pass through beautiful, jungle-like forests. The popular attractions within Paro include the Rinphung Dzong, the National Museum and the temples of Kichu and Dungtse. After the sightseeing, you will be able to visit local home and stroll around the township.

Day 7: Paro Valley (Takstang) (B/L/D)
Begin your hike this morning with a visit to the ruins of Drugyal Dzong. After venturing around the ruins, head to the famous Taktsang or Tiger’s nest monastery. If you’d like, we can arrange for a pony ride up the hill, but you must be able to walk down. Return to Paro for farewell dinner. Overnight in Paro.
Day 8: Departure (B) Transfer to Paro Airport in time for your departure flight. Most flights out of Bhutan depart in the morning.
Accommodations Choice Varieties of hotel choices are available in Thimphu and Paro but fewer choices for Punakha - Wangdue and Gangtey. In you wish to stay at luxury type; our recommendations are Uma Resort or Zhiwaling in Paro and in Taj Tashi in Thimphu. In Punakha and Gangtey, the only luxury choice is in Aman Resorts. Alternatively, you can stay in luxury resorts in Paro and Thimphu and while at other places, stay in regular tourist areas.
