Visit the mystical land of Tibet, filled with monks and temples and beautiful mountains and lakes. Walk through the mesmerizing city of Lhasa suspended 3,500 meters in the air, visit monasteries and listen to the intellectual debates of some of the worlds’ holiest minds, and sip delicious Tibetan tea in the heart of Barkhor square. This is your chance to explore and enjoy the beauty and majesty of the “Roof of the World.”
Day 1 Arrival Lhasa
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. At 3,500m high, we recommend that you take your time to get acclimated to the altitude.
Day 2 Lhasa walking Tour (Breakfast, Lunch)
Today, you will visit the Potala Palace. This palace is listed as an UNESCO world heritage site. It royally looks down on the city of Lhasa and is perhaps the most famous landmark of Tibet.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Jokhang monastery. This is perhaps the most notable monastery in Tibet. After your trip to this living history, you will have free time to explore Barkhor Square – the bustling market in the heart of old Lhasa. After exploring the market you can make your way to Ani Tsamkhung nunnery in the old city where you can have a warm cup of Tibetan tea with the locals in the nunnery.
Day 3 Lhasa - Yamdrok Lake (Breakfast, lunch)
Today you will experience the rugged and spectacular landscape of Tibet. Drive about 2½ hours to Yamdrok Lake. This drive will be full of magnificent views as you will drive through a mountain pass that exceeds 5000m. Yamdrok Lake is beautifully nestled amongst some of the most stunning mountain ranges in the region.
After you witness these stunning views, return to Lhasa in the afternoon en route to Sera Monastery. Within its whitewashed walls and golden roofs the monastery is home to several hundred monks who live and study there. Here, you will have the option to sit in on one of the captivating monk debate sessions.
Day 04 Lhasa - Shanghai departure (breakfast)
After breakfast today, you will transfer to the airport for your flight back to Shanghai.
